Numbers for 2007 show that Prince Albert experienced a red-hot housing market that has not been seen in years. The city had 148 new homes under construction in 2007, an increase of 88 homes from the previous year and putting the city fifth in the province for housing starts, according to data from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
Housing numbers were up across Saskatchewan in 2007. Saskatoon led the province with 2,380 new single detached and multiple family homes.
Mayor Jim Scarrow was pleased with the results and believes the 2008 housing market will be just as strong as it was in 2007.
"I'm delighted," he said. "Those kinds of statistics are a pretty good indicator of the economic times we are enjoying.
"And I would say it's a tribute to all those people who made it happen, not the least of which are the developers, the real-estate people and especially the contract people."
Recently Prince Albert city council doubled the number of development sites within the city.

Thanks Jan for your assistance in the purchase of our home. You were not only professional but exceptionally personable and focused in on our needs. It was refreshing to have someone really listen to what we were looking for and exhaust all avenues until the perfect home for us was found. I love the school and the area that we eventually bought in. I appreciated all the information that you shared with us about Prince Albert during our search, which was invaluable to us as new members of the community. Again your knowledge of the city, real estate market and your patience was greatly appreciated. Thank you.

"It is rare that I write a letter and rarer still that I write to a realtor, however, we believe a letter thanking you for your competent counsel and personal concern is in order."
